Tell us about Rekotex how did it all start?
With my background in the textile industry, I have seen over the years how both interior and fashion companies get stocks of brand new rolls of fabric onto the shelves when they are finished with their collections. The companies usually lack the time and channels to get rid of the surplus in a good way. In 2017, Rekotex was therefore started to act as a link that conveys these layer fabrics. Through a smart and user-friendly digital platform, we make the decision to use already existing material a natural choice. Fabrics that are surplus can primarily be used instead of starting new production at a fabric producer. A resource-smart and good deal for everyone involved.
What type of products do you sell and which market do you target?
Rekotex sells premium fabrics that are left over from manufacturing brands. Customers can find hidden fabric treasures that they can order directly from the seller’s warehouse and have delivered to their production address. We cater to buyers and sellers of fabrics throughout Europe, mainly we work with surpluses that are with brands or sewing producers.
The issue of sustainability is high on the agenda these days, how is it in your industry and how do you work with sustainability at Rekotex?
We are one of many solutions to make textile production better and smarter. Local production is promoted both in Sweden and elsewhere in Europe, which minimizes transport and contributes to textile resources being used more efficiently. Our service enables local small-scale producers to obtain reasonable quantities of pre-existing fabrics, in high qualities that are carefully selected by large players with strict quality controls on their fabric producers. The lead times for production are shortened, which means that companies can work more in season and see what is in demand on the market. A shortened and close manufacturing process reduces the risk of getting overstock of finished garments.
What would you say is your greatest asset? And your biggest challenge?
Our greatest asset is clearly the fine collaborations we have built up with our partners, brands and sewing units around Sweden and in the rest of Europe. The user-friendly digital platform that was developed to manage simple logistics around the business is also an important asset. Of course there are challenges such as shipping, but we see the future very brightly as interest in our service is steadily increasing.
What do you think are the most important ingredients to succeed in what you do?
To continue to collaborate with premium brands so that our customers know that it is the highest quality fabrics they can buy through us, as well as to provide personal high-class service so that both sellers and buyers feel satisfied. Another important ingredient is also to continue developing the digital platform for efficient logistics around the business.
