Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) from New York visited Stockholm Fashion District on April 14–15, led by Stephan Kanlian, head of the university’s beauty program.
During the visit, students attended presentations on the Swedish beauty industry, where both Stockholm Fashion District and Johan Magnusson shared insights into the local market and consumer behavior. The visit is part of an ongoing knowledge exchange between the Swedish and American beauty industries.
Our industry colleague Johan Magnusson, founder of the new media platform The Beauty of Innovation, sat down with Stephan for a conversation during his stay. Stephan Kanlian, founder of the cosmetics and fragrance master’s program at FIT, sees strong potential for Nordic beauty brands in the U.S. market. Although the American market is both competitive and saturated, Kanlian points out that brands with a focus on sustainability, local ingredients, and authenticity—areas where Swedish brands already excel—have a unique opportunity to stand out.
