Member of the Month May 2024: TreEx

One of our oldest members is Östen Olson from Umeå, founder of TreEx, who has been a member of Trade Partners Sweden since 1982. It has been a long and educational journey for both Östen and Trade Partners, and we want to take this opportunity to look back as we celebrate our 110th anniversary this year.
Östen TreEx

Östen is an entrepreneur with great dedication and a strong vision. Östen started his limited partnership in 1974 and has created a product that solves real problems throughout the country. 

We have had an interview with him where he shares his journey and where TreEx is today, 50 years later.

Tell us about TreEx, how did it all start and what do you do?

I had previously worked in the marketing department of large companies before taking the leap and becoming an entrepreneur. TreEx took shape after I, during my travels as an agent, experienced the need to simplify the opening of packages and cartons. This insight led to the development of Rippy, a packaging opener!

Why did you become a member of Trade Partners Sweden?

It was after I had been in contact with your organisation during the 1980s when I was in Stockholm, and at that time you were called the Sveriges Handelsagenters Förbund. I felt that it provided security and that professional help and information were offered by you. It was a good network to continue my business development and to make contacts within the industry.

What type of products do you sell and what market do you target?

TreEx focuses on offering practical solutions for everyday needs. The main product is the packaging opener Rippy, but I also have a product called Flap-Stop. Both of these products are designed to make everyday life easier and more convenient. These products are mainly aimed at industries where there is a great need for efficient opening tools, such as logistics companies and retailers.

How do you work with sustainability?

Both of my products are made of non-toxic recyclable ABS plastic. It is important to have environmentally friendly solutions and I think it’s great that we can have recyclable products.

What does the future look like for the industry?

My products are smart solutions for everyday needs for both companies and individuals. My two largest customers in Sweden today are Postnord and Office Depot. I believe that the product Rippy will continue to increase in demand as there are so many people ordering packages online and everyone needs to open them smoothly.

Östen has created an innovative and successful business model. He emphasized that the mindset that has characterized him over the years is – you should never give up.
